Disability-Inclusive Livelihoods Hub

Using our extensive experience managing construction projects, our ‘Inclusive Livelihoods Hub’ – the first of its kind, established with support from the Guernsey Overseas Aid Commission (GOAC) and Findlay Park, is designed to support unemployed parents of children with disabilities and youth with disabilities in Chadiza, Zambia.
Parents of children with disabilities and youth with disabilities are among the most marginalised and economically disadvantaged in the country, and the Hub will provide them with the space, resources, and support needed to break cycles of poverty.
The newly constructed Hub will be accessible, community-owned, and fully equipped to support a variety of businesses. It will offer bespoke livelihoods training for 240 parents of children with disabilities and youth with disabilities, alongside access to loan schemes and business management support.

Locally-led training sessions will be tailored to participants individual needs and abilities, ensuring the safe and effective use of all equipment.
Each participant will receive three training sessions in their chosen specialism, with additional community members invited to attend for a small fee to support the Hub’s ongoing sustainability. A range of resources is provided, including sewing machines, carpentry tools, cooking equipment, construction materials, and IT equipment such as laptops and computers.
Assistive and accessible technologies are being tailored to meet individual learning needs, ensuring that students with various types of disabilities can fully engage, participate and learn.
